I felt I should, out of respect and because I’m a teacher, mention something about the senseless tragedy last week.
It was and is horrific that these acts continue to plague our world.
But, because this blog is not the platform I would like to use to speak my mind on hot button issues, I’m not even going to go there with a political stance or a statement on what’s happening and why.
(But if you do want to lose friends over a difference of opinion or get in a fight with your childhood best friend’s mom, Facebook is open all day for your convenience.)
This blog space has and will always be a place for everyone, regardless of sex, gender, race, political affiliation, or stance on whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza (it does, in case you were wondering, but I totally still love you if you hate it).
Not only do we have enough of the ugly side of the real world all over our social media, we need some comic relief, even during the darkest of times.
It’s this reason I’m not sharing politically-fueled or potentially segregating posts here and why I’m going to continue spreading my humor.
This can be your place (if I so humbly declare) that you can come to to maybe get a chuckle or to not feel so alone because you realize now that you’re not the only one with overly hairy toes.
So, amidst the sadness and fear I feel for my students and my fellow teachers in the trenches, I feel a need to continue to smile, to find the good, to laugh.*

*This doesn’t mean you can’t also fight tooth and nail for what you believe in, because do that too ✊🏻.
I Just Want To Make You Laugh

Love your writing and agree with that sentiment. I try to do funny too, life and the news can make if feel trivial to do so sometimes but I remind myself that there’s a lot more smiling going on in the world than the news ever shows us. Adding to that – or at least trying to in my case – is better than adding to the alternative.
Thank you so much!! It’s totally not trivial. Truly, some days humor is the only thing that keeps me plugging along. Humor is ESSENTIAL.
Totally agree 🙂
Ps
I have a little bit of hair on my toes – does that count ?
Any toe hair counts 😂😂😂
Whew!
😂😜
Totally agree! We MUST have humor…..such a healing and energizing force! Knowing you’re a teacher makes me love you and your blog even more……my dear daughter teaches 12th grade English, plus I was a school nurse for many years……..so I have a very special place in my heart for you teachers. 🙂
Awwwww! I’m glad to hear that! I teach 3rd graders, so I’ve got the sorta little guys ❤️
Who was it, Reader’s digest? that said, “Laughter, is the best medicine”.
Someone awesome said it, I’m sure!
Pineapple does not belong on pizza, but I still love YOU.
😂😂😂😂😂🍍❤️😘
There’s plenty of blogs out there that will rant on Trump or piss and moan about whatever …. I’m just glad I can come to a blog written by a funny gal who loves cupcakes. <3
Yay!!! I’m glad you’re glad 😜😜
Pimeapple totally belongs on pizza with chicken, BBQ sauce, Canadian bacon, and jalapenos.
YES, YES, YES ❤️😋🍍🍕
I can’t believe you mentioned the contentious issue of the modern age- whether pineapple belongs on a pizza or not. For the record, I’m a pineapple-on-pizza-believer too. People who think otherwise have no sense of adventure.
Absolutely agree that these people lack adventure 😉
UGH! Toe hair sucks!! I am so thankful that mine is white lol.
Also, this was so beautifully written, Katie. It sucks that sometimes people in our lives just can’t seem to have a decent conversation over some hard issues. I saw a little bit of your Facebook conversations yesterday and I just don’t understand some people.
Keep up the laughs, darling! <3
It’s not my intent to be be a downer but…….pineapple on pizza……yuck.
LOL!! And the beauty of my blog space is you can feel like that and I still love ya!!
People are weird…Pizza is life!
Toppings are immaterial.
NICE STANCE 😂🙌🏻👏🏻
I don’t feel you owe any explanation for what you do or don’t write about. Your blog is your space, and while social consciousness is a fine thing—hey, I always make sure to follow every joke about the Titanic with “Too soon?”—even the most tireless fighter for social justice needs a break once in a while. It would be unfair for anyone to accuse you of insensitivity for wanting to provide that break and a safe place where we can compare hairy toes. You know who else has hairy toes? Hobbits, and everybody likes Hobbits, except orcs. What I’m trying to say here is, you had me at pineapple on pizza.
So true! I really didn’t owe an explanation, but I felt like saying something. Pineapple on pizza is what’s up!! And, yes, hobbits are loved by all but those ugly Orcs!
FMC,
This is absolutely beautiful. It has me tearing up, and I want to thank you for this eloquent piece in the midst of all this craziness. And thank you for being a teacher. You rock.
And thank you for that Robin Williams pic at the end. Perfect. Just perfect.
Peace, love and better days
I’m so glad someone mentioned the Robin Williams pic ❤️❤️❤️. I’m glad you enjoyed this one ☺️☺️☺️
Loved it. 🙂
☺️☺️❤️
I still love you too, even if you think pineapple belongs on pizza. <3 As long as you don't think peas and mayonnaise belong on pizza.
HECK NO!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Pineapple on pizza is an abomination! BUT I LOVE YOU ANYWAY! 🙂
BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! 😘😘
I love your stance here. I have a personal philosophy about my social media. My Facebook is politics free. I have seen huge fights erupt and I can clearly see which side I would take, but to even hint at that would bring a backlash. It doesn’t feel like we are free to speak up anymore. I definitely have my opinions (and they are the best ones), but it is not worth losing friends (or fans) over.
I agree!!
I actually got into on my Facebook, though. It did not end well 😬😬😬
