Anyone else legit concerned about the toilet paper situation right now? If Coronavirus wasn’t scary enough, I now have to wonder if I truly will need to resort to wiping with an odd sock or some McDonald’s napkins. We’ve all seen the memes and we all laugh, but in the back of my mind, I’m holding it together just barely. All that spins through my brain anymore, like a record on repeat, is the worry I’ll have to just.get.in.the.shower.after.a.poo like a DAMN HEATHEN.
WILL THERE EVER BE TOILET PAPER AGAIN?
NO, REALLY? WILL THERE?
On top of the toilet paper chaos that is, quite fucking frankly, appalling and I’m embarrassed to be part of the human race right now, people are buying out ALL THE FOOD.
Like, does anyone think of others? Along with my dead cold fear I will soon start to whittle away to nothing, I’ve been close to tears thinking of the elderly people all around the world who are being left to fend for themselves. They can’t compete against Bubba Joe and Ultimate Karen with their 18 carts full to the brim with toilet paper that will last a lifetime while the remaining part of society that is sane would just like the normal amount of toilet paper. Mothers can’t even get wipes for their babies because these fools think their 18,456 rolls of TP won’t quite cut it.
So instead of being in the plane that was supposed to be taking me to Paris for spring break, I’m in my sweaty pajamas, wearing a hole in the couch with my ever-expanding ass, while I just sit and worry and worry and worry some more.
The real insanity, though, is how I’m scared we will starve while at the same time I’ve eaten through half our quarantine snacks in just two days.
In all seriousness, though, this virus and the absolute unraveling of society that is happening right before our very eyes has my OCD on red alert.
To try to combat the obsessions and worry, I’m trying to do my small part by staying in as much as possible. I know there are still people who think this is all a big over-exaggeration and then there are the people who are right- ahem- the ones who don’t want to panic but we realize it’s not all “business as usual”, and we know we need to flatten the curve LIKE LAST MONTH.
Whatever your opinion, shits about to hit the fan all over the world. I figured I better bring Fatty back for the time being because, I don’t know about you, but a bit of humor makes shit times feel a bit less shit. So in between my absolute freak outs, I’m going to try to channel my humor and find the bright side, even though it feels like hiding right now.
I’ll check back in soon to let you know how self-isolating is going after I’ve eaten all my snacks and the excitement of “It’s like we are in a movie about the end of the world” wears off.
Bye for now!

I hear you on this. I kid you not, the shop around the corner from us is selling a 9 toilet roll pack for £12.39!!! They’re usually about £5. It’s disgusting to be taking advantage of people who are in a dire situation. People are just thinking of themselves and not others. Makes me wonder if we’ll actually learn anything from this other than that we’re clearly selfish to the needs of others less fortunate than ourselves.
Girl, there are fools in the U.S. with stockpiles of hand sanitizer, face masks, toilet paper, and disinfecting wipes who bought our stores for the express purpose of profiting off the panic and suffering of others. It’s deplorable.
I truly, truly hope this horrible time will be a moment for us, collectively, as a human race, to self-reflect on our actions.
I don’t have much hope, though. People are disgusting.
Are you actively self-isolating? How are the schools there? I’m enjoying a weekend of laziness before starting to plan out my online lessons lol I’m actually excited! Cos like it will be short videos every day and then slides for the rest. The longest videos will be me reading stories 😂 Cos yes I brought home picture books for read alongs lol
I am self-isolating because, even though WAY TOO MANY people aren’t taking this seriously enough, I feel I’m doing my part, however small.
We just began our spring break. It’s two weeks. I’m fearful for what will happen after, as our district keeps sending out the message they won’t be closing. I think that’s a grave error. I hope they make the right decision before it’s too late🤞🏻🤞🏻
I was watching an American news channel the other day by mistake and a whole bunch of those schools are closed until the end of April! I’m glad we are closed for two weeks after. Our government is making huge steps to stop it. No cruise ships allowed until July and none somewhere specific until next year!! I was offered a supply job next week at the ESL school I was at over the summer (and have confirmed this summer as well) I said yes but woke up with a sore throat yesterday so turned around and said no lol
I’m not full on self-isolating but I have no plans. The guy from last summer wants to hang out but I might just tell him let’s wait until after this thing blows over
Surprisingly, our government is doing stuff but it’s not enough. I’m fully convinced that we need to hardcore practice social distancing to help flatten the curve. If we don’t, it’ll be bad. I’m not trying to be a pessimist but it’s pretty obvious with what’s happening in Italy. We are somehow immune to that being in North America. Sadly, many people think it’s a big over exaggeration.
I think it’s because North America has largely been distanced from major diseases and life disruptions lol like people have no idea what’s going on. I have maybe coffee/dinner plans next week but that’s legit all I’m doing. I also have bible study but I’m hoping they cancel Cos it’s my turn to cook and I’d have to go shopping lol
I think all unnecessary public outings should be canceled. It legit sucks, but it’s the only way according to the loads of articles from trusted sources I’ve read.
Yes I agree! I’m settled in and ready for a long time of being bored. But also not just staying in. I can’t in this basement haha!! Walks before lunch, curtain and window open as much as possible. Work during the day. Lots of structure
Yes, definitely planning on going walks and even going on drives. I’ll straight go insane if I’m at home day in and day out for weeks 😳🤣
Samesies!! Thankfully I have to get work done. And A to Z is starting soon so I’m gonna write some posts. And start doing nail art self-lessons too lol i won’t go too insane
Nice!!! I’m glad you have something to keep you busy. I’m planning on working on my book 😉
YAY!!! That’s the best way to spend your time!
Yay! I’m so glad. The world needs you right now😊We must keep laughing since there’s little else we can do.
FYI I have not stockpiled TP or anything else but am asking myself, “Is it unwise to use the oatmeal for cookies right now?”…even though I never eat oatmeal. The struggle is real.
I hope I can help, even just a little bit. I am having the same wonderings. Like, should I really be eating this shareable bag of caramel M&M’s right now when this might just have to be our dinner some time soon? The struggle is REAL 😜😳🤣
Oh Katie, I thought of you a few days ago and your sterile wipes. Hope you’re coping and I’m sure you’re being super careful.
Here in ireland the schools closed last week. Social distancing (but not by everyone 😡).
We’re expecting total lockdown any day now!
Toilet roll is like gold dust at the moment. And we didn’t stock up 😫. But hey….we havent run out yet!
When I was a child the toilet paper in school was like tracing paper, so just to be safe , I think I’ll stock up on some of that!
LOL! Tracing paper! Hilarious. That’s basically the toilet paper at our schools now 🤣😫.
I’m coping but having to try really hard to not freak out! Our schools are still open but we just started a two week break. I hope those in charge make the right decision before we are due to be back 🤞🏻
Don’t forget to remember the good happening during the chaos also. Honestly, it seems that the bad far outweighs it, but it’s still worth mentioning. We’ve got people around here offering to help with childcare for parents who have to work while kids are out of school and daycare; people taking shopping lists for folks and braving the stores to bring them what they need. I wish we could be kinder during times like this.
That’s so wonderful. There are some good deeds happening around here, too. It’s harder to see amid the chaos, but it’s there.
You’re back – again – yay!!
People can be so bizarre sometimes. In my neck of the woods, TP was not an issue until about Wednesday. Then, it was like this was some new product that everyone needed to have. People went nuts, carting off two and three 36-roll packs at a time. All the while, I kept stretching my few little grey cells to recall where anyone had mentioned “intestinal issues” as a symptom or by-product of the virus. Tissues, I can understand, but TP? I visited about eight stores (for various reasons) since Thursday, and only one (1) had TP, but was limiting the number that one could purchase. Same thing with those butt wipes – all gone, save for two stores.
I’ve actually seen some guy (who, admittedly, may have been trolling) announce that he was ready to SELL some of his TP hoard for $3 a roll. I try hard not to wish ill-will on anyone, but this guy’s pushing my limits.
And like you, I’ve got my bag of survivor food, but good luck on it surviving the weekend.
It’s just one long, surreal week that . . . I don’t know . . . has really tested my faith in Humanity.
I’m back! I’m hoping to be able to post quite a bit, maybe even daily, to see if this helps my anxiety.
Soooo many people are testing my faith in society, it’s not even funny. Not gonna lie, worried about the butt wipe thing too 🤣
At Target the other day, my mom found literally the LAST loaf of bread and the LAST carton of milk in the whole damn store. I swear, she’s like some kind of grocery magician. The bread was stuffed behind some granola bars! WHAT EVEN THE HELL???
Pup works in the meat department at a grocery store and it’s been nonstop for him. I might not see him this week because they’re so busy he may need to work on his days off. Meanwhile, I’m rationing my toilet paper, at least until the boxes of tissues we managed to get from Amazon gets here, since trying to get toilet paper is not happening. I guess I could camp out in front of Target at five in the morning like Black Friday to try and be one of the first people in to get some, but I shouldn’t have to.
Wash your hands. Avoid large groups of people. It’s a very contagious flu, but unless you’re over 60 or otherwise immunocompromised, you’ll probably be fine.
Meanwhile, I’m off Facebook and Instagram for Lent so I have no idea what is going on with people. Did your school close? Because my classes were cancelled for the week and then picking back up online at least until after spring break. So, I’m so glad I paid all that tuition to NOT get my education.
I don’t think the fear is getting the virus, it’s what’s going to happen to the hospitals when too many people are critically ill at the same time. Italy is having a really rough time right now.
I’m rationing toilet paper right now too and it’s TOUGH. I’m a major over user of the white stuff.
Our state just yesterday canceled all schools. We won’t be back, at minimum, until April 6th. So you get to at least do online, though?
True. I mean, clearly there are plenty of people who aren’t afraid of anything, if all the people who are still packing bars to the point of lines forming outside for St. Patty’s is any indication. *sigh*
Our district cancelled classes completely for this week (as an adjustment period) and will be going online next week. Then the week after is Spring Break and then no one has any idea what the plan is after that. They say they want to reopen the campus, but I doubt that will happen. It’s just too risky.
The thing that bothers me is that I specifically take certain classes on campus because I just don’t do well with them in an online setting. For math, I need that face-to-face interaction to understand the material. So, I’m hoping that teachers take student learning styles into account and are a little more lenient. It would suck to fail classes because of such extenuating circumstances.
Eek. For real, I get what you’re saying about needing more support in certain areas. I’m 100% on the same page as you with math. I think institutions, businesses, and individuals are going to be more lenient given what’s going on. I hope so anyway 😟
While our country tries to do this a different way (herd mentality). By hiding away the most vulnerable and letting the fittest go about their business. In hopes that they catch a mild dose and recover this build some immunity and have fewer deaths. My oppinion is nothing others have done has worked so someone needs to try a different route. We have not stock pilled or even purchased an extra toilet roll. I refuse to be part of all the madness. If It is my turn to go I will go being me. Not a charactor from some appopalictic bad B movie stealing from the mouths of greatgrandmothers. Worst case scenario we die, best case we have a quiet time until the sunshines and I arrive in a bikini ready body cos I did not stuff myself with contraban and I have Kondoed my house and caught up on my reading list. Finished my Dream author course and finished editing the next best seller and booker prize winner. Win win!
I’m honestly so scared for my favorite country in the world. It will take a long time to build immunity and scientists aren’t even sure we can build an immunity to COVID-19, meanwhile hospital systems won’t be able to care for the influx of sick. I hope your country is right, though. I truly do.
If not we will be no worse than the rest, but at least we are trying. Xxx keep calm and carry on.
