As I write, I’m anxiously awaiting my Raley’s grocery order. The good people working at Raley’s have been so overwhelmed with pick up orders that the requested orders have been taking a week. A week. Those poor people. I can’t even imagine the chaos and attitudes they are getting from every Ultimate Karen.
I put my order in Saturday and my reserved time slot to pick it up is Sunday (today) between 11 AM and 11:30 AM.
All week I’ve been second guessing my choices and feeling worried they won’t have some of my items.

I ordered some non-grocery things from Target for the first time using their delivery service a couple days ago, and in the special instructions section I wrote a plea. I said, “I know there isn’t any TP, but just in case you happen upon some, like, maybe, someone hid a pack for later (I don’t even know why they’d do that but hear me out) behind the men’s khakis hanging on the wall and they forgot about it- that’s fair game- can you get me some?

I knew it was a stretch so I wasn’t holding my breath. Of course, my “shopper” didn’t find the khaki contraband toilet paper, but he did throw in a bottle of hand sanitizer as a consolation prize. Not all angels wear wings, some work for Shipt and drive a Geo Metro.
I didn’t even know what to add to my e-cart for my Raley’s order. What does one need during the apocalypse? Apparently, three tubs of ice cream. And dry beans. Nothing making sense anymore.
Planning a grocery list during a pandemic is like trying to order off a Cheesecake Factory menu when you’re tripping balls*. There are too many options and you feel like your choices are really, really, really important and you can’t mess up.
My first try at this pandemic panic buying happened Thursday, March 12th. I had the next day off because we were supposed to be preparing to go to Europe, so it felt like my Friday except not really because it also felt like the End Times.
I tried to make a Disaster Prep Food Shopping list before I left school and all I could come up with was:
Water?- Canned food
- Snacks…?
- TP/Paper towels/napkins
- Alcohol (isopropyl and beverage kind)
- …
My friend and I just panic wandered aimlessly, throwing random shit we thought was smart into our cart. We ended up both spending $150 on what can only be explained as the items a high af college student might buy.

I bought frozen pizzas, mug cake mixes, chips and salsa, and candy. I did buy two books to make it a more well-rounded shopping trip, but wtf? My shopping cart was filled with PMS-ing-something-fierce-food-items and nothing wholesome or healthy in the slightest.
I should, probably, cut myself some slack, because this is my first pandemic. I don’t know how one is supposed to prepare for worldwide chaos because that’s only supposed to happen in the movies.
So, here I sit socially isolating in my day pajamas, hoping to the pandemic gods that Raley’s hasn’t run out of ice cream because who needs rice and chicken when the world is ending?

*I’ve never tripped balls but I have a pretty good imagination and I’ve been wine drunk, so

The world is gone to shit. Which is amazing because regardless of where we are, toilet paper is literally currency because people are at heart selfish twats.
Good luck with your deliveries and keep putting it out there….
I can’t believe how selfish we all are. And it isn’t any one country, this selfishness is worldwide 😞. I hope you’re well!
There are no toilet rolls anywhere but I wrote a post on alternatives… Keep well and safe.
I panic bought a bidet, which is another post in itself 😆. I’ll check your post out!
Bidets are one of the topics!! We are on the same page…
Ha! I’m wishing this crap was all just one bad trip! Yes, cut yourself some slack. Dried beans are only useful if you’re actually going to use them. Ice cream has protein, too, right? So that’s dinner and dessert in one!
Our plan is to do ham and beans but we have yet to find a ham. I’m also hard pressed to go searching. I’d prefer to do all my grocery shopping as pick up orders only. We just ordered, for next week, a ham. Let’s see if we get it. I’m pretty sure we are now living in Soviet Russia 🙄
Eek–I just put in my $350 delivery order for groceries. They’re supposed to arrive Wed. night. I think I’ll make a game of the substitutions. What do you think my chocolate ice cream will be? Maybe that’ll be beans. Ham and beans sounds very comforting long about now!
Lol!! You’ll have to update us on what you actually get!! I’d be really sad with beans when what I wanted was ice cream 🤣😫
HAHA love this Katie! But on a more serious note, I think everyone should just shop as normal and not “pandemic” mode. Like yes, it’s scary but the trade border is open (at least for now) and things are getting to the stores to stock up. We just need to remember that supplies don’t just magically appear on the shelves overnight. They have to be ordered and shipped in. Usually once or twice a week. I love that you are doing online. I have considered it but right now I am loving my daily walks and it’s only 20 mins to the grocery store when I need to go. Which wont be for at least a week or more. I’m hoping it will have calmed down by then haha
I’m positively disgusted by the hoarding and the fact we are out of food items all across the nation and world. This legit didn’t need to happen!!
It definitely didn’t! Like even if we as the Western world, look at Italy where they are in a FULL lockdown, people are still allowed to go get groceries. It’s not like they are baring the doors to your house. It’s a little insane.
For real! How did this happen when we all knew groceries weren’t canceled? 🤔
Haha! Honestly we have never been in this situation before. Sure SARS was bad but not like THIS. We don’t know how to react to something like this. Like can a girl just go on a date?! NO… a girl can’t even go on a simple “let’s get coffee and go for a walk” how is that even possible?! I don’t get this world anymore lol
Yup, no dating for you or anyone else for a long time 😫😞
I’m half like “no seeing anyone” and then also half like “hey, I’m taking my walk at this time in this place on this day so if you just HAPPEN to be there we can sit 2 metres apart from each other and talk” 😂 but mostly no seeing anyone….
Haha! I think that could work!
Yeah?! Hehe well if you approve I might just suggest it!
Another concern you can get me around: my salon had closed and my body-weekly face threading/waxing is supposed to be on Thursday 😂 they are closed until the 6th and I have an appointment booked for the 9th but in between I’m gonna have to PLUCK ouch
All non-essential businesses are closed for 30 days here. But, if you read anything about flattening the curve, the experts say it should be more like 5 weeks 😳.
Girl, I’m gonna look like Sasquatch coming out of this quarantine 😬🤣
HAHA! Thankfully it’s just my face and we’ve hit a nice little space ourselves that means it’s not growing in as thick or as much lately so I will try my best. If all else fails, I’ll go back to shaving but that is a 100000000% LAST resort haha didn’t get to this stage just to give it all up
Oh, yeah. That’s my last resort too. I’ve never shaved my face but I know it’s inevitable 😳
I started when I was like 19 when it was “cool” to shave to apply makeup better. Only they don’t tell you once you start ya gotta keep going!! And what starts as a once every 3 weeks thing eventually turns into an every day shave. Waxing/threading is so much better lol
Precisely why I haven’t started yet! I’m not prepared to commit to that kind of landscaping 🤣🤣🤣
hehe well I didn’t know at the time that it would be like that. My mom shaves all the time (hormones) and then a friend of mine made a comment about the little peach fuzz on my cheek – which was normal! But off it came. Such a horrible choice.
I hope you get everything you ordered and I really hope your next attempt at getting supplies will find you some toilet paper.
And yea, meal planning during a pandemic is suuuuuuper weird. We bought a freezer full of ground beef, frozen chicken breasts, turkey burgers, and hot dogs. My mom bought 2.5 lbs of elbow macaroni and powdered cheese sauce mix. I got 5 different packages of granola. And just to really destroy my diet, I grabbed every cookie and chocolate treat I could find and ended up eating those first.
Yesterday we went to Albertson’s to pick up a couple of things. They were only letting a few people in at a time, since CA’s governor issued a stay-at-home mandate. But even with so few people, it was chaos. They had everyone in a single line and were directing people to open lanes, but a lot of people didn’t want to listen. My heart goes out to the brave, brave grocery workers, right now.
My dad had to go to his grocery store four times before he managed to catch them at the right time to get milk. He managed to get toilet paper, too. So, at least if I run out, I can count on my dad to save me with a roll or two. Delivering toilet paper to your daughter and ex-wife is probably an essential service.
Meanwhile, in Colorado, my aunt stocked up on booze and literally six months worth of toilet paper (by her own account), while simultaneously talking smack on everyone for buying so much toilet paper. So. Yea. My family is… nuts.
Oh man!! Yeah, the grocery store we went to last week was doing the same thing. I think it’s pure lunacy that people keep having to drive all over and visit so many stores for BASICS. It kind of defeats the purpose of the stay at home movement and social distancing. None of this madness had to happen.
We ended up not getting rice and two out of the three tubs of ice cream I ordered. I’m kinda sad 😫😫😫😫
Hard agree! There was no need to panic over basics like food and toilet paper. If people hadn’t been so damn selfish, these items never would have run out the way they have.
That sucks you didn’t get your rice or most of your ice cream! Ice cream?? Really??? Of course, I was surprised by some of the things the store was out of. I was barely able to find a carrot for my soup stock yesterday, because the store was out of fresh produce. I would have thought not many people would be buying produce because it goes bad so quickly.
Well, I made the mistake to not note that substitutions are fine so if they didn’t see the exact flavor in the exact brand, they skip it. I ordered smarter for next week 😉
I find it so insane that people have bought out things like produce and milk. Shit goes bad, people! Our fellow humans are dumbbbbbb 😒
Ah, yea, that explains it. Our grocery delivery will automatically substitute unless you specifically tell them not to.
It’s crazy! When I look at all these pictures of people with entire carts full of milk and eggs, all I can think is, “Well, no wonder people are hoarding toilet paper. They’re gonna need it after they drink all that spoiled milk!”
BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Right?! What a flippin waste! It’s such a damn shame.
Hang in there – I firmly believe that we’ll get through this.
I hope so 🙏🏻
Hope that you’re doing okay, FattyMcC!
Hey there! I’m hanging in there. I haven’t been much in the blogging mood. Hope you’re doing OK!
I’m doing alright – as best as can be, considering. Glad you’re good. Well, stay safe!
Glad you’re good as well! Stay safe too! Hopefully this’ll be over soon 🤞🏻
I just placed an order… Fingers crossed! Half of it was for my very picky in-laws so I’m really hoping they don’t make too many changes, because I really don,t feel like arguing with them!
I hope you get everything you ordered/need. 🙂
I’m slowly discovering that being picky doesn’t pan out so well these days. It’s more of a “what can I make with what’s available” kind of life now 😫🤣
It requires quite a bit of resourcefulness to make meals with ‘whatever’s left’! Maybe that should be a blog series… ‘Quarantine Eats’… 😉 My in-laws are so picky though… And half their list was pastries and whiskey, nothing to make meals! 😂
LOL. Great idea…and, until my boyfriend stepped in, that’s what my list looked like 😳🤣
Well, we all need a few treats! 😉
For real!!!
Haha, i think this post accurately sums up most people during a pandemic
😅 phew! 😆
